Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA) and the Davis-Garvin Agency, Inc. have joined together to provide affordable Recreational Liability Insurance.

Annually, outdoor enthusiasts spend more than $300 million on outdoor recreation aside from hunting and fishing in Mississippi. Demand for quality outdoor recreation for bird watching, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and other nature based tourism activities is increasing. According to recent research, fee access wildlife and fisheries recreational enterprises on private lands diversify landowner income, enhance participation in USDA cost-share programs that increase wildlife habitats on marginal agricultural lands, and promote land stewardship and ownership retention (Jones et al. 2005).

What is covered?

Outdoor recreational liability insurance is designed to protect the risks that landowners encounter when making their land available for a fee to outdoor enthusiasts. This coverage does not cover hunting activities or recreational ATV use. The scope of activities covered include the following (other activities are subject to underwriter approval):

  • Bird watching
  • Hiking
  • Outdoor photography
  • Scenic/panoramic & wildlife viewing
  • Primitive camping & nature trails
  • Geocaching
  • Canoeing, paddle boating, & fishing
  • Horseback riding (animal mortality & personal injury excluded)
  • Mountain biking (personal injury excluded)

A recreational use agreement must be in place between the landowner and the recreational use club.

Type of Insurance:

  • Comprehensive General Liability
  • Limit of Liability: $1,000,000 each occurrence; $2,000,000 aggregate
  • Deductible: $0 per occurrence
  • Master policy basis

Effective date - July 1. Coverage bound after July 1 will be pro-rated.
